You will bear a son
A New York Episcopal priest said Jesus is transgender, and that denying that is denying his divinity. The angel’s line to Mary was that she would bear a son. Hannah Knudsen’s report is the source. The Gospels are not a wardrobe.
Breitbart reports Rev. Flourish Klink who identifies as transgender and nonbinary made the claims in a recent sermon at Christ & St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. “God is non-binary… but I’m going to go further than that and I’m going to say God is actually also trans,” Klink said then argued that when God was born as Jesus “Mary said ‘Oh look a baby boy’” and that God was “assigned a gender at birth” and later that gender “wasn’t quite right.” Klink said denying God is trans means “denying the divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ” and claimed the Resurrection showed Jesus “transitioned” into a “true self… beyond male or female” while admitting “I don’t know for sure. I wasn’t there” and that “the Bible does not tell us” what was different. Knudsen notes the first chapter of Luke where the angel Gabriel tells Mary she will “bear a son” and “call his name Jesus” and that He will be called “the Son of the Most High” and “the Son of God.” The New York Post carried the same viral clip and the same blasphemy dressed up as pastoral care. A midterm is not the Incarnation. A presser is not Gabriel.
Being a Christian in America this week is refusing to confuse a viral Episcopal monologue with theology and refusing to confuse “I wasn’t there” speculation with Luke. Keep the Creed. Keep the Son. And do not confuse a midterm with Gabriel telling Mary she will bear a son.
